Pregnant Mothers Battling Addiction Lose Lifesaving Protection

"Wisconsin Right to Life is saddened that a federal judge in Madison has struck down a law that protects pregnant mothers battling addiction and their children,” stated Heather Weininger, Executive Director of Wisconsin Right to Life. “Wisconsin’s ‘Cocaine Mom’ law was designed to protect unborn children while giving their mothers the opportunity to seek treatment. It protects the health of both mother and child, and gives both a chance at life. While it is disappointing that U.S. District Judge James Peterson struck it down, Wisconsin Right to Life remains committed to protecting the welfare of both mother and child, and helping connect pregnant women battling addiction with resources to promote the well-being of both themselves and their children.”
